If uncertainty is pervasive in today’s economy, the authors argue that one thing is clear: public policy to enhance innovation in general, is not working, and this is largely due to confusion between invention “and .. “innovation” Although the terms are used interchangeably, there are significant differences in definition, the intent and the process they describe these differences and argues that the focus should move to a particular type of innovation: user-centered innovation. Such innovation enables users to do something they could not do before and can also reduce costs for users. They explain how the policy of “cool” innovation for innovation driven by users, ended the creation of inventors whose inventions nobody really wants.
