The Offshore Drilling Industry in 2011 Case Solution & Answer

After booming in 2007 and early 2008, the offshore drilling industry collapsed in 2009. The decline in oil prices lead oil companies to reduce drilling budgets, and use rig falls almost 100% and 70% in some markets. Fees days – the prices paid for the services of a bore – falling to 68%. This case illustrates how the work of supply and demand as well as prices and short-term use, and how long-term supply is determined in an industry where capacity additions take several years. It also describes how advances in drilling technology in deep water are changing the industry structure.
