In this note the oil and gas is analyzed. Note first provides background information on the financial performance of the industry, the role of OPEC, and the problems of the oil producing nations had to capitalize on their resource endowments (ie, the resource curse). The note then summarizes the main competitors among integrated oil companies (IOCs), national oil companies (NOC) and independent. Note the main areas of activity are described, including exploration and production, refining and distribution, natural gas and petrochemicals. The note concludes with an analysis of the evolution of the industry.
