After 55 years in the semiconductor industry, Morris Chang, founder and chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) was to see a change. After four decades of sustained double-digit growth of the industry has continued to grow – but now at a much slower pace. In 2004, TSMC entered the Chinese market, the world’s second largest semiconductor by the construction of a factory in Shanghai. China was the market opportunity in which TSMC could go for expansion, or should its strategy to focus on new product development and innovation?
