Singapore Metals Limited (SML) has lower sales, but has developed a new (platelets hair metal coil conductor) product, when tested in the field, provides benefits for customers that are several times the cost of manufacturing SML. Jonathan Lee and Alex Tan, Division of Engineering Products SML are responsible for the formulation of a strategy for the new product. A key issue is the price to pay for platelets. The case raises questions of analysis of the potential market, the price of alignment with business strategy and determine the price implications in the development and implementation of integrated strategic options.
