Rick Drumm (C) Case Solution & Answer

Rick Drumm (his real name), once a contest winner drums old teenager, faces the most promising, but also the transition from the most difficult race of his career as a manager and leader. While studying MBA second year in an accelerated program and work as president of Vic Firth Inc., a manufacturer of chopsticks $ 20 million in sales, he was recruited to become president of J. D’Addario & Co., the largest manufacturer Accessory U.S. music. After surviving a series of interviews – the headhunter, several members of the Board and President of D’Addario – was reported to be interrogated by Jack Welch, legendary CEO of General Electric, as the last step selection. Rick must decide how to prepare for this interview, how to approach this final proof of their qualifications to assume the direction of a much larger and more complex organization. (C) case focuses on Jim D’Addario (descended from clan D’Addario, President and CEO) and his views on the growing needs of the executive management of the Company historically venerable Musical accessories. The case features the history of the company through various transitions in short, business and leadership, and how they came to ask Jim Welch questioned his “best candidate.” The case also describes the point of view of Jim in what the company needed at the time, and their views on the key attributes of Rick Drumm. The case ends with Rick describes his first steps to diagnose the most urgent problems to D’Addario, and measures taken to address the situation.
