Reversing the AMD Fusion Launch Case Solution

AMD Management must make a crucial decision on the launch sequence of its next-generation technology called Fusion. The concept of fusion merges processor core and graphics processing units (CPU and GPU) on a chip – performance benefits (including related graphics) performance, power consumption, and the adequacy of the new form factors computing (tablets, machine all-in-one, etc..) AMD plans to launch the merger in early 2011 with a high-end processor, code named Llano, to impress the industry and consumers the best technology could offer ( suitable for desktop computers and high-end phones), and then implement the low-power versions, codenamed Brazos (suitable for small laptops and netbooks). However, the development has been delayed as Llano Arm was ahead. AMD Executive Committee discussed the possibility of reversing the launch sequence and go with a “strategy of arms first.” The case describes the microprocessor industry, its main competitors (AMD and Intel), and changing world of buying and selling PC. The case also relates to a number of market studies that AMD has led to a better understanding of the market. Students must comply with the opportunity to initiate an inverse relationship expectancy launch all versions together and if AMD can advance their competitive position relative to Intel Fusion. Students must present their approach to marketing (sales effort, prices, marketing, etc.) in the event that a reverse launch strategy continued.
