This case study examines pension decisions from a financial point of view, with the example of a university professor, Dr. Carl Pettigrew. Dr. Pettigrew has a full pension by their employer, but must consider their obligations to his former spouse and police existing life insurance. Because of all the different elements analyzed, the case represents a moderately complex situation for the pensioner. Students are invited to take the role of a financial planner to help Mr. Pettigrew to work through all the factors necessary to take into account and make the best decision when and how to retire.
