This is the first in a series of lecture notes that, tied in a manual, you might call “practical regression.” The purpose of these notes is to complement the theoretical content of most statistics texts practices based on nearly three decades of experience of the author, along with over a hundred years experience of colleagues who have offered advice tips. As the title of “practical regression” implies, these notes are a guide to regression in practice. This technical note introduces students to the essentials of convincing empirical research through a regression. Students who read this note will be ready to do a project for unstructured search. The article presents ten essential steps in the research, from modeling and ending with the presentation of the results. Coverage is given to important issues such as the identification and model robustness issues.
