Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel: Aligning Development with Operation Case Solution & Answer

The owners of the Hotel Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport features a gorgeous 4 + star hotel in a prime location, just five minutes walk from the airport terminal. It will include 612 rooms, several food and beverage shops, meeting rooms and the largest dance hall in eastern Bangkok. The property was co-owned by three Thai Crown corporations and opening began on October 1, 2006. Operator Universal Hotel Bangkok Hospitality Group and the French hotel and leisure company Accor Group submitted a joint bid for the management contract when it opened for bids in September 2004. In February 2005, the owners of the group management contract management Accor Hotels Universal. It was after the hotel’s design has been finalized and construction began. Therefore, management felt they did not have a significant contribution in the development process. Also, the hotel was built on a turnkey basis. Thus, when the management group took responsibility for the hotel in April 2006, numerous operational challenges arising from what they consider a lack of alignment of development, construction and operation of the hotel were found. The management group spent the first months struggling with these problems and find solutions.
