MiniScribe Corporation Case Solution
This Case is about ETHICS, LEADERSHIP, REGULATION
PUBLICATION DATE: February 24, 1998
MiniScribe made disk drives for personal computers. A turnaround specialist stumbled during an industry shingle, but saved it. The reversal seemed to be dramatic, but it was just an illusion. After four years of successes that were reported, the firm declared that all previous financial statements were not accurate, and tremendous losses wiped out all equity. In the ensuing investigation, it came out that a lot of workers had caved in to seemingly incredible pressure for consequences and had embraced numerous fraudulent schemes to raise gains. Possibly the most outrageous scheme was to package bricks and send them as disk drives.
