Making Mergers Work Case Solution & Answer

Planning the post-merger integration in general, focuses on operational issues such as the harmonization of product lines and information systems of financial and human resources issues, and determine which employees are retained and those who indulge. Attention to the identity of the merged firm is also provided in a superficial sense. The name of the purchaser may be used, or a new logo can be created or found a new name. However, for psychological organizations achieve synergies required to achieve economic synergies of mergers and acquisitions, the authors argue that leaders must attend a more complex set of detailed questions of identity. These questions define the essence of the company and give employees a clear answer to the question “Who are we?” And external stakeholders a clear answer to the question “Who are they?” The first issue concerns the members’view an organization that makes it unique among all other organizations. The second question captures what the public believes is outside the essence of the organization. Left uncorrected, these deeper questions of identity and commitment will decrease inevitably affect the performance of the merged entity. The operational integration after the merger is a necessary but not sufficient requirement for successful performance. Special attention to the integration of identity is also essential for success. The authors argue that there is “a better way”, and in fact there are four different paths that can be followed to achieve the integration of identity: assimilation, federation, confederation and metamorphosis Each of these paths represents a particular combination of the answers to the two questions that managers face pending a merger or acquisition. What to do with the identities of the parties to the merger bring with them (in d, ie their historical identities) and how a common identity for the future will be built?
