Problem Statement

“To investigate the impact of low-level laser therapy in the treatment of Alzheimer and other neurological disorders”

Research Objectives

The following are the research objectives for the study:

  • To understand the impact of low-level laser therapy in the treatment of Alzheimer
  • Compare the effectiveness of treatment with the low-level laser therapy and other forms of treatment.
  • Evaluate if low-level laser therapy improves the patient’s memory, thinking, and personality.

Research Limitations

There arefew research limitations which are the following:

  • Time is one of the main constraintssince the project has a predefined time for completing the study.
  • Another constraint is the financial sources for gathering the response.
  • Knowledge is limited due to lack of practical experience

Literature Review

The two most common neurological disorders are the Alzheimer disease and the Parkinson’s disease. These diseases are formed during the death of neuron in the brain(Johnstone & Benabid, 2016). LLLT was primarily used for treating inflammation, repairing tissues and reduce chronic pain. Recently, it is found out that the LLLT canbe used on the bone marrow which leads to cell growth of mesenchymal stem cells. These mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) transfer to the part of the brain and often helps in treating the neurological disorders. The use of low-level laser therapy during Alzheimer progressive stage and the increase of mesenchymal stem cells would stop Alzheimer from further worsening (Farfara, et al., 2014).

Alzheimer disease is one kind of dementia disease which progresses slowly and affects the mental health of the person. The person affected with Alzheimer disease facesdifficulty in remembering and also results in behavioral changes. The disease is developed mostly on aged group people and currently, there are around 50 million people which are affected by Alzheimer. It is expected that the number of people with Alzheimer would increase to 65 million inthe year 2030, whereas in the year 2050, over 115 million people would be affected by the Alzheimer disease. This disease is considered as one of the sixth causes of death to the people in the United States(Corporation, 2017).

Many of the neurological disorders such as Alzheimer disease, Parkinson, Huntington and spinal cord injury are caused by lack of neurons and glial cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The stem cells which act as a replacement for these cells have the ability ofrenewing and have the ability to copy into another type of cells. The cell replacement therapy helps in the generation of stem cells such as mesenchymal stem cells through the low-level laser surgery (Kim & Vellis, 2009).

Dementia is a worldwide and widespread disease as around 44.4 million hadsufferedfrom the disease in 2013. In which around 62% of people living in the developed countries are suffering from dementia. Many measures have been taken to find a cure for neurology and its disorders. One of the cures is the low-level laser therapy. The LLLT has shown on rescuing some of the neuron cells from dying through the upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (Litscher & Litscher, 2014)………………….
