Lesotho Hospital and Filter Clinics: Public-Private Partnership Case Solution

This case concerns the public-private partnership (PPP) between the Ministry of Health, Government of Lesotho and a private consortium led by Netcare, a South African company, to build and operate a new referral hospital and four clinics serving Maseru, the capital of the nation. The project was one of the first efforts to develop a PPP in Africa for the construction and operation of a large hospital and clinical services. The project is perceived by the International Finance Corporation as a great success. The case focuses on three questions: 1. measures taken by the government, IFC and private parties to form a viable public-private partnership in February. design and implementation? PART key performance indicators set out in the contract, and 3. the viability of the project taking into account the increase in the expected costs and health services of lower quality in other parts of the country, which led to a demand for the new clinic and hospital beyond the number initially provided. 1999.0 cases
