Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless Case Solution & Answer

Janine Robitaille, Executive Director of the Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless People (IPH) is considering the future of the nonprofit organization, which has resulted in the past five years. IPH has been serving the community since 1984 and homeless individuals and families served by meeting their immediate needs, helping to find safe and affordable housing, and provided ongoing support through case management services to long term. The recent publication of the annual report of 2010 provided Janine and her staff the opportunity to reflect on their achievements, especially considering the financial difficulties caused by the recession of 2008. Janine reflects several challenges to its staff in the next year. Almost all programs running at full capacity IPH. The emergency shelter, featuring a night shelter for single men and 30 women, was full. El Paso Center had reached the limits of the existing facility and can not meet the growing demand for day services. There was a waiting list for permanent housing and increased competition for limited resources of government should be stronger evidence of the effectiveness of their programs. IPH needed to develop and grow the sources of business, organization and individual support for reducing reliance on government funding, increased in-kind donations, and effectively use volunteers to reduce operating costs. Janine considered several possibilities. Should we look for additional capacity in permanent housing as a way to create a more sustainable funding? Was it time to find a bigger Paso Center, providing space for new partnerships with other service providers and increased facility for the needy? Does it make sense to extend the services or activities of another neighborhood or town? The challenge was to determine which alternatives to pursue and how to finance existing operations. Janine felt it was probably time IPH involved in a formal strategic planning.
