Intel and WiMAX in 2010 Case Solution

In the spring of 2010, Intel has been considered an important champion for a new broadband technology called WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). WiMAX sent large amounts of data through radio signals, and much greater range than Wi-Fi is offered. He also offered connection speeds much faster than 3G networks run by AT & T, Verizon and Sprint. WiMAX is a new area for Intel, and the company expects the same kind of profitability and success of Intel Wi-Fi is given. Between October 2008 and May 2010, Intel forces with Clearwire, Sprint, Motorola and other partners joined to launch WiMAX in about 30 U.S. cities. Intel’s vision for the deployment of fixed wireless WiMAX evolved (for broadband to homes and businesses) for mobile wireless connectivity (laptops) for wireless mobile (handheld devices and smart phones to high-end), the company has spent thousands of millions of dollars in acquisitions, investments in WiMAX. However, Intel has faced numerous challenges with WiMAX. A large infrastructure must be built from scratch in the U.S. and worldwide, and WiMAX requires a minimum of a few major cellular operators to choose as its next-generation technology (4G). Intel could create a new ecosystem 4G convince OEMs to incorporate WiMAX technology in their devices. In addition, WiMAX faces stiff competition from other wireless technologies, including LTE (Long Term Evolution), which AT & T and Verizon plans to use when upgrading to 4G 3G technology. Although WiMAX has about two or three years in LTE, the size of the mobile operators have already committed to LTE WiMAX threatened niche technology.
