Infection Control at Massachusetts General Hospital Case Solution & Answer

The case explores the challenges of Massachusetts General Hospital in the adoption of a new policy to combat the infection, which promises to improve operational performance, patient safety and profitability. The new policy requires coordination between the different departments of the hospital, ie emergency unit infection control and admission services. Students were asked first to evaluate the operational, financial and clinical implications in the new policy. They are then asked to consider different approaches for its implementation? Occupied. Objective: The case allows readers to consider a framework where internal coordination between different services offer significant overall benefits to an organization. Coordination in this case, however, also led to the inequitable distribution of costs and benefits among different ministries, which in turn provides an opportunity for students to explore various issues and implementation strategies? Occupied.
