The case describes how five organizations (Salesforce.com, IndieGoGo, Ferrari, Team Philippines Thumbtack, and the U.S. Army) have developed effective strategies to foster happiness in their organizations and align with their business goals and missions. Provides tools that leaders of these organizations use to cultivate and measure happiness and considers the potential drawbacks of happiness. Part of the case focuses on four key elements of universal happiness, autonomy, collaboration and excellence (PACE). Examples of tools leaders use to promote happiness are: Goal: Create a culture that focuses on the mission to the extent that potential employees choose to work even if the salary is less than comparable companies. Autonomy: Give employees time to work on projects they are passionate about. Collaboration: Creating a distinctive identity that creates pride among employees, and the use of interactive web sites to create connections among employees. Excellence: Provide real-time data on employees and business performance and enhance the skills and passions of individual employees.
