In 2011, Haier, the first appliance manufacturer in China, has had more than 20 billion dollars in sales worldwide and has been named as the leading manufacturer of refrigerators worldwide. This case describes the rise of Haier long three decades, from a defunct refrigerator factory in Shandong province of China for an international player 5,500,000,000 in exports. Haier has followed a nontraditional expansion strategy of entering the developed markets of Europe and the United States as a niche player before venturing into neighboring Asian markets in the Middle East.
