By early 1995, Gordon Biersch aimed to expand the brewing side of the business and to open 20 new restaurants throughout the United States by 1999.
They needed to grow at a much quicker pace, which required additional capital and management expertise to do so. So, in November 1995, they accepted an investment of $11.2 million from the Fertitta family. In exchange, Dean and Dan gave the Fertittas bulk control of the business.
