Supervisors attempting to carry out tactical change frequently challenge when their strategic initiatives run into the culture of their organization. Being conscious of an organization’s culture-the usually unquestioned, common assumptions people have about “how things should be done around here”-is an ever present challenge for leaders, to say nothing regarding changing the culture. This fictional role play case was designed to help pupils develop expertise in understanding principles of organizational culture, strategy development, and change group process in a top management team, management, and discussion. This instance includes six functions in one role play exercise scenario that exemplify a direction situation that is challenging. People are faced with differences in views and aims, and those differences must be addressed by pupils in order to develop a productive strategy and culture for the organization.
