This article provides an overview of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the financial sector is presented. We focus on how socially responsible investing and shareholder activism have been an integral part of corporate social responsibility in the financial sector. We examine how the financial sector and business evaluation and classification according to a sustainability index, the Dow Jones Sustainability World and show that even large financial institutions do not use proactive practices of socially responsible investing and shareholder activism. Finally, we give examples of two companies, UBS AG and cooperative banking group, do not use proactive practices.
