Interest in and excitement for crowdsourcing is growing enormously. However, should it be viewed by organizations considering the usage of crowdsourcing as just another way of outsourcing to non-workers, or something exceptional that’s specific requirements for success? This informative article addresses that problem. After reviewing the various ways in which organizations employ non-workers to overcome human resource limitations, we propose places in which they are not dissimilar and areas in which they are different. Presenting essential questions that each organization considering using crowdsourcing must address, we provide specific recommendations for all those organizations that choose to employ a bunch to match their requirements. These recommendations are derived from an extensive review of the professional literature as well as the research literature, and contain added insights calls with would-be customers ran by a significant crowdsourcing intermediary.
