Corporate social responsibility (CSR) look at how businesses treat their stakeholders. One crucial stakeholder group that’s often overlooked is the investors of the corporation. Often, the corporate social responsibility literature targets workers, customers, and the natural surroundings, but seldom on investors. The focus of this post is the impact of the company on its investors as expressed through its corporate governance practices. What hope is there for the other stakeholders, if a company can not treat its investors well? We claim there are market forces at work which encourage CSR behaviour that is great.
