Cisco, the corporate leader in the supply of infrastructure for the Internet, entered China in 1994. Businesses like Cisco, which designs products that are mostly undetectable and outsources their production, face several opportunities and challenges in an emerging economy.

China was among the fastest growing IT markets on earth, but Cisco faced growing competition from Chinese companies, including Huawei, and there were serious problems originating from software piracy.
