Interlaken Village in Shenzhen, China, is an exact replica of the Swiss city of Interlaken, part of OCT East, an investment of 450 million U.S. dollars in the prosperous Pearl River Delta. This is a management strategy where students think outside the box in business strategies. In the standard literature of competitive strategy, companies should avoid emulate or imitate others to achieve unique competitive advantages. This case, however, consider whether the copy can be a source of sustainable competitive advantage.
