Chinese culture has been the most influential in East Asia, and one of the great contributors to world civilization. Perhaps the strongest reason for this is the yin-yang of Confucian and Daoist thought. This is clearly evident in Chinese concepts of leadership. Discuss

In Confucianism, moral leader tends to engage virtue in others, self and society through virtuous conduct and example(Bass, 1998), and in doing so; the leaders transform the society, others and themselves, accordingly. As the essence of East Asian cultural & ideological values; there is a significant impact of Confucianism over East Asian leadership practices.(Cheung, 2005). For example; Zhi – translated as wisdom, understanding and knowledge is the Confucius cardinal virtues possessed by true leader or a superior person, which is a quality that is essential and a must-have for every virtuous leader. Zhi is endowed by Confucius with the moral connotation & asks that the competent individuals with moral integrity should be placed in the position of leadership.(Hsiao, 1979).

In Confucianism, another cordial virtue is Xin – translated as faithfulness, truthfulness and honesty, which are of paramount significance when holding a leadership position. The leaders or rulers must be faithful and honest with their words being consistent with their actions & by learning from and taking responsibility for their mistakes. Additionally, rén is regarded as the virtue of virtues, which encompasses several other values, such as: justice or righteous, lǐ (rites and rituals and propriety),xìn (trustworthiness& honesty),xiào (filial piety), shù (altruism& reciprocity),zhōng (loyalty) andzhì (wisdom). Rén is regarded by Confucian as the highest moral principle or the virtue of virtues.(Bell, 2003).

In addition to this, the moral leadership concepts in Confucianism, entail three connotations, which include leading by example, self-cultivation and zhèng míng (rectification of names). The model leadership concepts are practiced by Confucian leaders not only through observing rules and regulations but also by assisting people to follow and understand the norms in accordance to the rules of the property (Chan, 2008). Furthermore, Confucian leaders tend to build moral leadership and character through exemplary teaching, self-cultivation and self-discipline. Confucianism also encourages leaders to improve higher order needs of followers and positive moral values, and advocates the reciprocal humanitarian leadership.(Lee, 2001).

Another well-known oriented philosophy – Daoistis characterized by the dialectic system of thinking. The model of the successful leaders’ traits on the basis of Daoism,is faithfulness, indicating the sincerity of the person who is loyal to his position and is honest to his followers. The plans and actions of the leader are predictable due to his democratic style and characteristics of faithfulness.(Xuezhu Bai, 2011 ). There are various ethical implications of Daoist leader ship, which include the significance of multiple perspective and multiple ways of understanding the focus on the services and soft tactics as well as the spiritual dimension of there lationship between the followers and the leaders.(Johnson, 2000 ). Daoism seems to speak in more direct way to the use of power and position of leader. Daoism tends to recognize that one of the major objectives of the leader is to serve the people with an intention to receive the gratitude or gain for the personal benefit…………………………………
