The partnership between Abbott and the Government of Tanzania has continued to thrive. As a demonstration of the long-term commitment for Abbott in Tanzania in 2007, Abbott Fund has opened its first field office in Illinois Abbott. The new office in Dar es Salaam, led by the Divisional Vice President Christy Wistar, supervised the growing number of philanthropic projects in Tanzania. In June 2007, Abbott CEO Miles White returned to Tanzania for the third time, and Abbott Fund announced future plans to upgrade 23 regional laboratories across Tanzania. In late 2007, Abbott Fund has invested over $ 50 million in Tanzania, the strengthening and modernization of infrastructure and health care systems in the country. It is expected that the Abbott Fund continue to support many programs and organizations working to prevent the spread of HIV / AIDS from mother to child and provide care and effective treatment for patients infected with HIV. The Abbott Fund has also supported programs that provide for the basic needs of orphans and vulnerable children in Tanzania and in Africa and other parts of India.
