A-CAT made a moderately broad variety of electric appliances for household use. The voltage regulators produced by A-CAT were used for a variety of functions; yet, the focus was on its flagship merchandise, VR500 – a voltage regulator of 500 VA. Over the last couple of months, this version was unable to convince the increasing expectations of the marketplace and had confronted stiff competition. The mangement was concerned that a substantial amount of A-CAT’s customers were choosing for rivals’ commodities. The case means to 1) make pupils conscious of the relationship between customer requirements and the technical features of a product 2) make pupils understand the fundamentals of worth evaluation 3) instruct the pupils to use value evaluation in evaluating the scope for price reduction.
